You just purchased a wood sign for your home from Etsy or a local home decor store, now where to put it? Wood signs are very popular in home decorating, especially for those like me that swoon over farmhouse style interiors.

Bye Bye Wall Decals…Hello Wood Signs

Wooden signs with sayings add so much to your home. These signs add personality, style, tell where things are, and sometimes add humor to a space. We all remember the days of wall decals, well wood signs have taken over and are easier to decorate your walls with and are much more unique.

How to Use Wood Signs when Decorating

Wood signs are super versatile. Almost as versatile as decorating with empty frames. Getting back to the question where to put your new distressed wood sign, there are so many fun ways to use wood signs.

To help you find the perfect spot to hang a wood sign, I’m going to showcase the best ways to decorate with wood signs.

As part of a Gallery Wall

Wood signs are a fantastic addition to any gallery wall. A key to a successful gallery wall is varying the objects used. So mixing in wood signs with photos, art, and other interesting wall decor will help you complete the look.

As a Focal Point above a Fireplace

After I took down my Christmas decorations, I decided it was time to change out the decor on my fireplace mantel. When I did this I used a wood sign as the focal point. With an old window and tobacco basket as a backdrop, I centered a simple “Joy” wood sign above the mantel.

Not Always on the Wall

Wood signs don't always have to be hung on the wall. Another easy way to use wooden signs is simply spaced on a bookcase or shelf. Mix a wall sign with other home accessories on a shelf for a stunning vignette.

In the Kitchen

A large wood sign above upper cabinets always looks amazing and draws people's eye up so they don't see the pile of dirty dishes in the sink.

Another place in the kitchen, which if you are a parent may be the first place you go in the morning, is your coffee pot. A cute sign that says "But First Coffee" is the perfect accent to a coffee station.

Welcoming Entry

Wooden signs are an easy way to dress up the entry of your home. A Welcome sign is a simple way to tell guests you're happy to see them. Or you can have an "Our Nest" sign, like I do.

Time to Eat

When decorating a dining room, wood signs can add style and add coziness when eating as family. Signs that are perfect in a dining room are an "EAT" sign or a "Gather" sign.

In the Bedroom

We all want our bedrooms to be a relaxing and romantic retreat. Wood signs can add to the decor and atmosphere while showing how much you care for your spouse. Hanging a sign above the bed is a great location in the room.

Bathroom Reminders

Even in smaller rooms in your home, wood signs look great. In a bathroom as an example, you can remind your kids what they should do before they go to bed.

Wood signs, I believe, are here to stay because they allow us to give our homes personality and style. Which all in all helps our homes tell a story about us. Your home decorating should always be more than pretty, but meaningful as well. Wood signs help add that meaning.

There you can find my handmade wood signs and home accessories that will give your home a cozy rustic touch. Stop by the shop often as I am always adding new items.
